Bytes
Definition: A byte is a unit of digital data that typically consists of eight bits. It is the smallest addressable unit of memory in many computer architectures.
History/origin: The term "byte" was coined by Werner Buchholz in 1956 during the early design phases of the IBM 7030 Stretch computer. It was intentionally misspelled to avoid accidental confusion with "bit".
Current use: Bytes are the foundational unit used to express the size of computer files, memory, and storage devices.
